Facebook Messenger, with 800 million users around the globe, has just introduced a group voice calls within the app. The announcement was made by Facebook’s head of Messenger on Wednesday.

Really excited to announce the global roll out of group calling in Messenger today.

Facebook Messenger group calling feature allows you to initiate a group call from any group conversation. To start a group call, you must have a group conversation. You just have to tap the phone icon from any group conversation in order to start a group call. You can find a phone icon in the top right corner of group conversations. A new screen will appear where you can select individuals for group call and can manage call participants. Messenger currently limits the call participants to 50 per call, which can cover a vast majority of your Messenger contacts.

This group calling feature is available to Messenger’s iOS and Android apps. If you have a latest version of Messenger then you can use this feature. However, this update may not be available to everyone just yet. It might take some time.

If you have the latest version of Messenger, you should see the phone icon appear in group conversations within the next 24 hours.

With the latest Facebook Messenger group calling feature, it becomes a good competitor of Microsoft’s Skype and Google Hangouts. All of these voice calling apps support free group calling.
