Software Update

According to T-Mobile, Everyone using Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 9, Nexus 6 (2013) and Nexus 6 will get an update from the google starting from today, It will be available to download OTA for all devices, so keep an eye on your software update.

The update will be Android 5.1.1 build LMY48M and main emphasize will be on security and some minor bug fixes. After the Stagefright issue, Google made a statement that they will be releasing updates every month on their nexus devices as Security should be number one priority. The update releasing today will be the first in the series of monthly updates that Google promised for Nexus devices.

How to Update Software:

If you are nit familiar with how to update software OTA. Follow the below steps to check if the update is present and download it on your device to update.

Update software from the device

To check for updates and download the update from the Google, follow these steps:

  1.  Goto Settings.
  2. Select About device.
  3. Tap on Software update.
    • If you are not connected to Wi-Fi, you may receive a prompt to connect.
    • If the update is not available, you will receive the message The device is up-to-date. If you receive this message, please wait for your device to receive the update via OTA.
  4. Follow the instructions.
  5. Wait while your Nexus device reboots and updates Android version 5.1.1.

If you have any of the mentioned Nexus devices, the over the air update will be showing up sometime today, and if you are using T-Mobile, You will get the update over cellular in a few days if you are unable to access Wi-Fi for some reason.

Security updates dont have much to offer, Mostly when there isn’t a pressing threat that we know they are correcting, but it’s good to see Google doing what they promised for, These regular updates can be very useful in maintenance of Nexus device.
