The latest Samsung S series comes with all it takes to be the best smartphone of 2023. There are three versions of the S23 series: the standard compact version, the S23+ version, which has a bigger display screen, and the S23 Ultra, which comes with an S pen. We will cover all the methods in this guide if you have the latest Galaxy smartphone and want to install stock firmware on the Galaxy S23.

You might have to install stock firmware on Galaxy S23 or any other Android phone for multiple reasons. The number one reason for installing stock firmware is to return to the factory software from either root or custom ROM. Some software issues can only be dealt with by installing the operating system from scratch. This guide can also be used if your Galaxy S23 is soft-bricked or stuck at the Samsung logo on the start-up.

Methods to Flash Stock Firmware on Galaxy S23:

Two methods exist for installing stock firmware on Samsung Galaxy smartphones, notably the Galaxy S23. The first method uses ODIN, an official Samsung tool for flashing firmware or recoveries on your phone. The second method allows you to install stock firmware via Smart Switch. This is another official Samsung tool; it is slightly limited in functionality but more straightforward to use and has a user-friendly interface for non-technical people. In this guide, we will cover both software.

Install Stock firmware on Galaxy S23 via ODIN:

Flashing stock firmware on a Samsung Galaxy S23 using ODIN is a relatively simple process, but it can be risky if not done correctly. Before proceeding, ensure you have a complete device backup and understand the risks involved.

Pre-requisites:

  • Make sure your phone is charged before starting the process.
  • Download and install Samsung Drivers for Windows on your PC.
  • Download ODIN 3.14.4
  • You will have to download the appropriate firmware for the Galaxy S23. You can download it with Samsung smartphone firmware from Sammobile or any other website. Once the firmware is downloaded, extract it on your PC, where the files are easily accessible.
  • Make sure you download the appropriate firmware for your phone. You download the correct firmware version matching your device’s model number and region. However, you can install firmware from any country on your phone as long as the firmware and the phone are not branded. Suppose your phone is of some brand and locked to the brand. Then, find and install the firmware of that brand, e.g., T-Mobile, Vodaphone, etc.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Download and install the latest version of ODIN on your computer.
  2. Extract the downloaded firmware file to a location on your computer.
  3. Power off your Samsung Galaxy S23.
  4. Reboot Phone in Download Mode:
    • Connect the USB cable to your computer. Hold down “Volume up” and “Volume down” simultaneously. While holding down, connect the USB cable to your phone.
  5. Connect your Samsung Galaxy S23 to your computer using a USB cable. ODIN should recognize your device and display a blue “Added” message.
  6. When using ODIN, you must select the firmware file with the .md5 extension you extracted earlier by clicking the “AP” button.
    • Additionally, you must ensure that you add the firmware files to their designated slots. For example, you should add the firmware file to the “AP” slot, the “BL” firmware file to the “BL” slot, the “CP” firmware file to the “CP” slot, and the “HOME_CSC” firmware file to the “CSC” slot. It’s important to note that you should leave the “USERDATA” space empty.
  7. In ODIN, check only the “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” options. Do not select the “Re-Partition” option unless you know what you are doing.
  8. Click ODIN’s “Start” button to begin flashing the firmware to your Samsung Galaxy S23. The process may take several minutes, and your phone may reboot several times.
  9. The flashing process is complete when ODIN displays a green “PASS” message. You can disconnect your phone from the computer and set it up as new or restore your backup.

Note: If you encounter issues during the flashing process, such as a failed or stuck firmware installation, do not disconnect your phone or power it off. Instead, follow the instructions provided by ODIN to troubleshoot the issue. If all else fails, seek assistance from a professional.

Use Smart Switch to Install Stock Firmware on Galaxy S23:

You can also install stock firmware on Galaxy S23 via Smart Switch, which is relatively more straightforward than ODIN. Following is the step-by-step guide on how to do it:

  1. Install the Samsung Smart Switch on your computer and launch it.
  2. Connect your Samsung Galaxy S23 to your computer using a USB cable.
  3. In Smart Switch, click on the “More” option in the top right corner of the screen and select “Emergency software recovery and initialization.”
  4. On the next screen, click on “Device Initialization.”
  5. Smart Switch will then check for the latest firmware available for your device. If an update is open, you will be prompted to download and install it. If not, click the “Initialize” button to start the firmware flashing process.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to put your device into download mode. You will typically need to power off your device, then simultaneously hold down “Volume up” and “Volume down”. While holding down, connect the USB cable to your phone.
  7. Once your device is in download mode, Smart Switch will start downloading and installing the firmware. The process may take several minutes, and your phone may reboot several times.
  8. When the firmware installation is complete, Smart Switch will display a message indicating the successful process. You can then disconnect your phone from the computer, set it up as new, or restore your backup.

Note: During the firmware flashing process, it is essential to keep your phone connected to your computer and not disconnect it or use it until the process is complete. Additionally, ensure your phone has enough battery life to complete the process.
