Huawei was not much known in Europe and the USA before the company collaborated with Google to develop a masterpiece named Nexus 6P. After that, the company made its ground worldwide, proving its worth through the quality smartphones it developed. The company’s latest smartphone is the Huawei P40. It has all it takes to be one of the best Android smartphones of this year. It has excellent processing power and features, making it stand next to the Samsung Galaxy S7, HTC 10, and LG G5. Today, we will talk about entering the recovery menu on the Huawei P40.
Note: This guide is for all versions of Huawei P40. (Huawei P40 Plus, P40 Lite)
Huawei has this great feature, which none of the other smartphone manufacturers have. It lets you interact with the recovery menu using touch. In other phones, one must use the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to select. Stock recovery allows you to flash zip files from your phone’s internal or external storage. Using recovery, you can also flash custom recoveries, custom ROMs, and every zip file. A few notable features that can be done using recovery on Huawei P40 are as follows:
- Make a NANDROID backup.
- Flash Custom ROMs.
- Flash Custom Recoveries.
- Wipe Dalvik Cache.
- Wipe Cache Partition.
- Hard/Factory Reset Phone.
- Format SDcard.

Although several ways can be used to get into the recovery menu of the Huawei P40, the easiest and most common way is via button combination. And the other method is via ADB commands. Once you are in the recovery menu, you can make a selection by tapping on the screen or by using the volume buttons to navigate and the power button to create a piece.
Enter the recovery menu on the Huawei P40 using the button combination:
- First of all, you have to shut down your phone.
- Once it’s powered off, press and hold the volume up and power button simultaneously.
- Release the buttons when you see the Huawei logo flashing.
- That is it. Now, you will notice the recovery menu on your phone.
If, for some reason, you cannot use the button combination to get into the recovery menu, then use the method below.
Enter the Recovery Menu on Huawei P40 using ADB commands.
If you want to access the recovery menu of the Huawei P40 using ADB commands, ensure you have installed Huawei drivers on your PC. Windows usually downloads and installs the drivers when connecting to a PC. Drivers are to be installed so that your PC recognises your phone.
- First, make sure your phone is connected and recognised by your PC.
- Now, head to your phone and enable USB debugging; Goto Settings-> Select About Phone -> Locate Build number and tap it seven times. Return to the settings page and locate Developers Options -> Enable USB debugging.
- Goto android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory and open Command Prompt
- Shift + Right-click in the folder and then click on the open command prompt.
- Now enter the following command:
adb reboot recovery
- Now, your phone will restart and boot into the recovery menu.
