Unable to Save File on SD Card on Samsung [Solution]

Unable to Save file on SD card on Samsung galaxy S7

Not so long ago, when I took a picture from the default camera app of the Samsung Galaxy phone. An error popped up “Unable to Save file on SD card.”

I did some research and figured out its solution after spending hours on the internet. Here’s what I did to fix this error on my Galaxy phone.

While looking for a solution, it turned out that this problem started after the latest system update (G935FXXU1APEQ). At first, I thought there was some issue with my SD card. But my phone can still read and write on the card. Only the stock camera app is having problems. Even pictures from Snapchat are getting stored on the SD card without any issue.

Solution Unable to Save File on SD Card on Samsung:

The Samsung Galaxy series is a beast when it comes to specs and hardware. The phones never gave me any problems before. The best thing about Samsung is that they have very high-quality hardware in their devices. My only problem with Samsung is the TouchWiz or One UI. I would opt for stock Android over modified Android a hundred times over. Usually, Samsung Galaxy phones have two variants. The international version runs on Snapdragon, and the other USA and Chinese model runs on Samsung’s manufactured Exynos chip. After the latest update, the error “Unable to Save file on SD card” is found on both versions.

Now, let’s move on to the solution to this error:
First things first. These little optimization tweaks might solve your problem, and you will be able to save data on an SD card.

  • Goto Settings -> Application Manager -> Camera -> Clear App data and Cache.
  • Reformat your SD card. You can do that using your phone by going into your card settings, or you can reformat it via your PC. Right-click on your SD card in My Computer and click on format.
  • Clear Cache Partition of your Samsung Galaxy S7
    • First of all, turn off your Samsung Galaxy S7.
    • Now press and hold Volume up + Home + Power Button Simultaneously. Keep on holding the buttons until you see an Android figure in the background.
    • Once in the Recovery menu, use the volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Cache Partition.
    • Use the power button to select it.
    • Now use the volume buttons to go to Reboot System Now.

You can also format your SD card from the recovery menu using this guide.

All the above steps didn’t work for me. I hope you guys have already tried it. According to my opinion. This problem arises because of updating a new firmware over old firmware of some other region. The fix is simple. But it will remove all your data present on your phone. You will have to factory reset your phone.

Important: Before moving forward. Use this guide to backup your phone on the cloud or the PC in just a few minutes.

In order to perform a hard reset or factory reset. You will have to get into recovery and factory reset your phone. However, you can perform it from settings as well.

Factory Reset your Samsung Galaxy via Recovery Menu to fix Unable to save file on SD card:

  • First of all, turn off your phone and get into recovery mode.
  • Note: The procedure and the button combination to get into the recovery menu are different for different Galaxy S series phone versions. Use the respective button combination to get into the recovery menu.
  • Now press and hold Volume up + Home + Power Button Simultaneously. Keep on holding the buttons until you see an Android figure in the background.
  • In theĀ Recovery menu. Use the volume down button to get to Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  • Use the Power button to select it.
  • Now use volume buttons to go to Reboot System Now.

Now your Samsung Galaxy phone will restart, and it will work as if you just pulled it out of the box. However, this solution worked for me and fixed the problem. But if you still have this problem, you might have to flash stock ROM on your Samsung Galaxy phone.

If the problem persists, use this guide to flash stock firmware on your Galaxy phone. However, a hard reset will solve the unable to save files on an SD card. You should also check your SD card. Maybe the problem is with your card. It is corrupted, you can try replacing it with some other card and check to see if the problem persists.

That’s all from my side. I hope this guide helped you to fix your S7. Do give us feedback on which method worked out for you. Suppose you have any questions regarding any of the procedures above. Feel free to ask me in the comments. I will get back to you in less than a day.
