Started looking for how to fix Nexus 7 Battery drain on Marshmallow after this past weekend, when I left my Nexus 7 2013, with factory image newly flashed, idle for two days and it drains 41% battery. Its a WiFi variant. Started looking if I am the only one who had this battery drain on marshmallow. Figured out many people are suffering from the same issue. My nexus 7 has stock 6.0.1 with february patch, newly flashed. Following is the screenshot.
My LG G3 has a full battery drain in 6 hours, it occurred to be this might be because of Android Marshmallow, as it takes 70% of the battery drain on G3, but looks like it has an underpowered processor with high resolution screen and terrible antenna.
On my Moto XP 2015 with Marshmallow 6.0 no idle battery drain issue like my Nexus 7 2013, but bluetooth audio still not supported by audio effects like on Nexus 7 2013, Damn it.
How to Fix Nexus 7 Battery Drain on Marshmallow
Looking into the solutions many people recommended me to go to Settings> WIFI> Advanced WIFI> here change the  “Keep WIFI on while Screen is off” to “only when plugged in“. Well, in my case, this setting refused to work and WIFI on causes huge idle drain even when all syncs are off. In Bluetooth Setting while scanning is off. And further long list of battery saving tricks.
Talking about the how I fixed the battery drain on my nexus 7, I used this app named Wifi Automatic, download it from Google Play Store by following this link.
Wifi Automatic is a free app from a reputable developer (Kimcy929) that works great for turning off wifi when not in use. I am also using Greenify aggressive doze, with both of these apps I am getting about 5 days standby. nearly three times more than when it was on 5.1.1.
Basically you can use this app to schedule turning on/off of WIFI, so it won’t drain battery when you are not using your Nexus 7 2013. For me this fixed the drain issue. Now overnight battery falls only 1%.
