It’s time for a new version of Android, so I will be making predictions on which devices will be getting the latest Android Nougat and which will be left behind.
Now, let me clear. The following list of devices getting Android Nougat is purely based on my understanding of how things work with each manufacturer. And considering the pattern of release of previous version of Android for each manufacturer and their devices.
Let’s move on the the list of devices that are going to get Android Nougat:
Nexus phones:
Nexus phones are not actully manufactured by Google, but each year Google selects which smartphone is going to built their Nexus brand phone. The devices are running on Google’s operating system and they are the first one to get the update each year.
- Nexus 6
- Nexus 5X
- Nexus 6P
- Upcoming Android One models will be also updated to Android Nougat.
- Nexus 9 and Nexus Player are also getting the latest operating system.
The devices which will be left behind are Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013. Users of Nexus 5 will be sad about it. Google shouldn’t just let it go off the phone which gave it so much fame in the smartphone market. Although it is not hard to get the latest Android 7.0 on Nexus 5 once it is released.
Samsung phones:
Samsung manufactures loads of smartphones each year. Some are low priced and middle-tier smartphones. We can’t say if they will be getting Android Nougat. Let’s hope Samsung doesn’t forget those phones when it comes to updating software.
- Galaxy Note 7
- Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge
- Galaxy Note 5
- Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+ will also be updated to Android Nougat.
People are reluctant to buy Samsung smartphones these days because Samsung takes too long to release the latest Touchwiz based on latest Android operating system. While looking into Samsung’s latest operating system release pattern, we can say that the Note 7 and Galaxy S7 series will get the Android 7 update in February 2017. Note 5 and the S6 series will get shortly after.
LG:
- The LG G5 will be getting Android Nougat.
- The LG G4 and LG V10 might get the update.
Motorola / Lenovo:
- The Moto Z (all variants).
- The Moto G4.
- The Moto X Play and Moto X Style.
HTC:
Its official from HTC that the following devices will be getting the latest Android operating system.
- HTC 10
- HTC one A9
- HTC one M9
As HTC will be making the upcoming Nexus phones. So they will have a lot of time to understand the Android Nougat code.
Huawei:
Huawei is trying hard to get to the first spot in smartphone manufacturers queue. Following are the Huawei devices getting Android Nougat. It seems likely, but I am not sure about how things will work with Huawei this because last year Huawei was not even in the list.
- Huawei Mate 8
- Huawei P8
- Huawei P9
- Huawei Honor 5X.
